This is a new addition to my range of Liberty fabric bags. It was inspired by my friend Anna who is making a quilt for her daughter from hand pieced Liberty hexagons. I’m normally too impatient to hand sew, yet I’ve always envied the portability of crafts like knitting. You can’t take a sewing machine on a train… So I devised this partly-portable sewing project as a way to reconnect with making by hand. I really enjoy using it as an everyday bag – the riot of colour and pattern brightens up even the mistiest autumn day, and it’s a conversation-starter too. It feels good to be using a quilted object every day – and the gathered top with a pleat means that it’s compact but, Mary Poppins-style, holds a surprising amount. The kit contains all materials, pattern and fully illustrated instructions, including pre-cut Liberty fabric hexagons, so you’re good to go!
